We bought a superb property in a great location but it had been very neglected over the past 30 years. We have renovated it to a very high standard with lots of ‘mod cons’.

However our passion is in upcycling, recycling and freecycling furnishings where practical. For example Telford Room has a large ‘marble’ console table upcycled into a glamorous vanity unit.

Our focus is trying to significantly reduce the amount of plastic and ‘waste’ we produce. We are constantly looking into new ways of reducing our impact. We do the obvious things like:

• recycling
• pre-order breakfasts (Visit Scotland recommendation)
• motion sensor lights
• keeping all our laundry ‘in-house’ which ensures we use environment more friendly cleaning products and appropriate washing machine cycles. We also hang out our washing with the meerest hint of good weather - even if it just helps it to ‘dry’ a bit!
• not using pesticides on our terrace/gardens
• reducing use of plastics - rather than disposable individual plastics we have dispensers for body wash, shampoo and hair conditioner. If you have forgotten to bring anything - just ask - we might be able to provide it or lend you it.
• multiple night occupancy significantly decreases carbon footprinting through our business

We are finding new ways to ‘clean’ (which there is a lot of) using bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and lemons etc alongside eco products. We are a work in progress – but feel free to make any suggestions we might be able to implement!
